Bastard. Orphan. Son of a Whore. - It Begins With A Thought Coaching

Bastard. Orphan. Son of a Whore.

I saw Hamilton this week.

Mind. Blown.

Now that is a story of someone who GOT IT DONE.

Hard stuff.

Impossible stuff.

New stuff.

We are living in the country he helped to make possible.

How does a bastard, orphan, son of a whore…grow up to be a hero and a scholar?

By working a lot harder.

By being a lot smarter.

By being a self-starter.

In other words…

By managing his mind.

When he was abandoned by his father at 10 and orphaned by his mother’s death at 12, he could’ve wallowed in sorrow and self-pity.

When the cousin he was living with committed suicide and left him alone at 14, he could’ve fallen deeply into the role of victim.

When a hurricane devastated his island and left him and everyone he knew with nothing, he could’ve become bitter and resigned to his misfortune.

But no.

Instead he read and read and read.

And worked and worked and read some more.

And he WROTE.

About his experiences, and all he had learned.

His writings were so impressive, the people of his community gathered donations for a scholarship to send him to college…in America.

He became a college-graduate, a lawyer, a revolutionary, an influencer, a scholar, a prolific writer, an advisor to General George Washington, a military commander, a husband, a father, creator of our country’s financial system, treasury secretary…

By the age of 32.

He was not lucky

Or privileged

Or in the right place at the right time.

He believed in himself.

He let his vision, not his doubts drive him.

He DID THE WORK.

He made it happen.

What if he had failed ahead of time, by thinking things like…

I’m just the bastard, orphan, son of a whore.

I have no place there.

Where would we be?

Thanks Alexander Hamilton.

Because you did, I can.

And so can YOU!

It all begins with a thought.
