We all have to do things we don’t want to do.
We have to do hard things-like work full time while completing a college degree.
Boring things-like laundry and dishes.
Unappealing things-like changing diapers.
We would prefer instead to lie on a beach,
Or get a massage and a mani/pedi,
Or watch movies and eat chocolate in bed.
But if we want to have food, shelter, and NOT have our children removed by Social Services…
We have to make money, clean our houses, and take care of our children.
And if we want to take it a step further…
And not just survive,
But thrive in this human experience-
We have to be willing to do things that we may not want to do,
or enjoy doing,
but do anyway because of how much we will grow, and change, and progress.
When my alarm jars me from sleep at 5:30 to get up for my workout-
I don’t want to get out of bed…but I do it anyway.
When I’m running on the treadmill at my highest sprint speed for a full minute-
I want to stop and walk…but I keep going anyway.
When I have 20 pressing things on my to do list for the day-
I would rather ignore them and read a book…but I do them anyway.
Sometimes my brain craves the dopamine hit it gets from sugar-
And I know I would feel some temporary relief from my discomfort…but I eat veggies anyway.
A lot of the time, the path of least resistance seems so much more appealing…
Easier.
More comfortable.
But great things never came from comfort zones.
So make the choice to do the things that challenge you before and during-
For all that comes
AFTER.
It all begins with a thought.
